All winning proposals will be provided guidance on how to apply for government funding’s and grants where applicable.

Competition Procedures and Rules:

TCE invites business proposals from all college and university students from across the world. The competition will entail the following:

  • Teams of a maximum of 4 students per team will be accepted
  • All team members must be students at a recognized college or university in their jurisdiction
  • Team members can be from different colleges or universities or programs
  • Team members will work together to develop a business proposal for this competition
  • A business proposal that has already been submitted to this competition or any other competition will not be accepted – This must be a brand-new proposal
  • The proposal must include an introduction to the business idea, identified market, product details, financial estimates for the first 3 years and details of the legal and operational placements of all 4 members.
  • The proposal must consist of a PowerPoint Presentation and an Excel sheet for financial projections. Teams may add any other important information in MSWORD format if they wish.
  • The teams will be provided with 10 hours of mentorship from seasoned business professors from Canada and overseas
  • The top 10 proposals will be selected and invited for presentation in the first round
  • Top 5 proposals will be selected for the second-round presentations
  • All prizes will be provided as funding for the business project only
  • The judges’ decisions are final
  • The competition participation fees is US$250/- per team (4 members per team)

Step 8:

Final round of presentations. All 5 teams will present. Top 3 teams will be selected and notified. All other teams will be notified as well.

How it works?

Step 1:

Interested in joining the competition? Send us an email at competition@torontoce.ca to submit an expression of interest. Just write “we are interested in the competition and need more information” in your email and send it our way.

Step 2:

We will compile your emails and send you the details of the competition. This will include the procedures to join and participation criteria.

Step 3:

You will inform us of your willingness to participate in the competition and pay the participation fees. The fees is non-refundable and must be paid by one of the team members or their family members using their own credit/debit card. The fees will be paid to Toronto Centre of Excellence using our online payment portal available at www.torontoce.ca

Step 4:

Send us your business proposal. We need a PowerPoint and an Excel sheet with financial projections. You may add more MSWORD files to explain your idea.

Step 5:

All paid teams will be matched with their mentors and given 10 hours of mentorship sessions to further refine their business idea. Mentors will also help you work on improving your presentation skills.

Step 6:

Top 10 ideas will be selected and notified. All other teams will also be notified.

Step 7:

First round of presentations. All 10 teams will present. Top 5 teams will be selected and notified. All other teams will also be notified.

Step 9:

Payment of the prize money towards financing the business. Information about how to apply for government grants will also be provided where applicable.
