INTRODUCTION

Toronto Centre of Excellence will prepare a workshop to disseminate the best practices and knowledge on disaster prevention and management based on the principles depicted by international federation of red cross and red crescent societies. The main purposes of the workshop are to help the participant:
(1) Demonstrate a critical understanding of key concepts in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response.
(2) Understand and appreciate the specific contributions of the international humanitarian organizations to the practice and conceptual understanding of disaster management and humanitarian response and their significance in the current context.
(3) Recognize issues, debates and challenges arising from the nexus between paradigm of development and disasters.
(4) Critically evaluate disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response policy and practice from multiple perspectives.
(5) Develop an understanding of standards of humanitarian response and practical relevance  in specific types of disasters and conflict situations.
(6) Critically understand the strengths and weaknesses of disaster management approaches, planning and programming in different countries, particularly their home country or the countries they work in,
(7) Respond to disaster risk reduction initiatives and disasters in an effective, humane and sustainable manner.

Proposal Inclusions

The proposal includes the following(to be sourced by TCE);

  1. Qualified facilitator/trainer to deliver the workshop as per the outline
  2. Workshop Material. As per the outline. Hard copies will be provided to the participants
  3. Certification: At the end of the workshop a certificate of attendance will be issued
  4. Workshop folders: All participants should be provided with workshop folders
  5. Facilitator/Trainer’s air travel from country of origin to Nigeria and return
  6. Facilitator/Trainer’s hotel accommodation and meals

To be arranged by the Client:

  1. Workshop venue
  2. Facilitator/Trainer’s transportation
  3. Invitation letter for visa arrangement for facilitator/trainer and an Associate
  4. Appropriate security arrangements for the facilitator/trainer throughout his /her travel and stay.

Delivery of the Workshop

The workshop will be conducted in three primary ways: Brief presentations followed by problems and a case discussion. Either a well known international case or a local case will be discussed in each module. During the 3 days course, participants will be provided with professional mentoring to help you address the most developmentally critical thematic areas for disaster management. As a result of your active participation, you will receive an Alpha Management certificate.
